Grooming Product Application
HISTORY
A.P. Deauville LLC offers a targeted contract manufacturing business for clients with medium to large volumes in tubes, bottles, bottom-filled oval ap/deo sticks and candles. In business since 2001, A.P. Deauville relocated from New Brunswick, NJ to Easton, PA in 2021. Privately held with an entrepreneurial spirit, they believe they can move faster than their competitors. They also offer the value of owning their own brands and will make recommendations to your products with the eye of a brand owner, not just a job-shop.
Just 90 minutes outside of New York City (centrally located near both Route 78 and Route 80 highways) in a newly remodeled 180,000 sq ft (16,700 sq meters) FDA registered facility, they are well positioned to fulfill medium to large volume business across a variety of categories, including but not limited to anti-perspirants, deodorants, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, liquid hand soap, creams, lotions and most recently candles. They have base formulas in both traditional as well as clean beauty.
A.P. Deauville brings to market nationally recognized health and beauty brands geared toward the mass consumer market. 20 years ago, they purchased the Power Stick® brand from Unilever, a former Faberge® brand with over 40 years of heritage and consumer awareness. They located and built their production facility in Easton, Pennsylvania, where they develop high-quality formulations that are the hallmark of the A.P. Deauville brands. Items such as Power Stick® and Soft Whisper® for women.
CHALLENGE / SOLUTIONS
Their goal of this grooming product application with the Horner OEE was to get an accurate count of their scrap. They added a Horner OEE unit at the feeder at the front of the line and another OEE at the palletizer at the end. Workers along the bottling line are manually pulling out bottles that have defects, whether in the label or the bottle itself, and tossing them into a bin. With the OEE in place, the manager then looks at the scrap bin and inputs downtime and scrap reasons.
They are now data logging an accurate scrap count for their grooming products, along with reasons for both scrap and downtime. Their reports are being logged via a network connection to the server. A.P. Deauville is considering the addition of the Data Concentrator, as well as adding a similar OEE setup on other production lines within the facility.
PJ DiStefano, A.P. Deauville’s Plant Manager, was originally introduced to Horner and the OEE product at his previous employer, ICS, another Stokes/ ECA/Horner customer in the Lehigh Valley. While ICS didn’t purchase the OEE, it stuck with PJ and he recognized the need for it at A.P. Deauville.
In the limited timeframe of this project, they have not experienced any notable efficiencies yet, but that was not the initial goal. With accurate scrap counts, they are now able to establish baselines and work toward future efficiencies.
TESTIMONIAL
“I am very happy with the performance of the Horner OEE. It is giving me far more data than I previously had, and I like the visible indicators (lights) alerting
immediately of issues. I hope to optimize more of the automated features and performance in the future, utilizing the system’s full capabilities.”
