Position Summary

Responsible for developing detailed electrical hardware designs for control / HMI / I/O systems used in industrial automation products across various industrial sectors and processes. Accountable for the selection, configuration, and integration of components for electrical control assemblies, control systems, and associated documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical control systems used in industrial automation: mainly PLCs, HMIs, and I/O systems.
  • Ownership of product design including schematic, layout, bring up, production handover, and support
  • Create schematics, PCB layouts, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Select, configure, and integrate electronic components for control assemblies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues during product development and field deployment on new and existing products.
  • Manage the prototype creation process, including testing, validation, and documentation of modifications.
  • Collaborate with test engineers to perform UL, CE, and environmental testing requirements.
  • Work closely with production engineers to ensure successful transition from prototype to production.
  • Interact with purchasing and production teams to resolve component sourcing and production-related issues.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO9001 standards and relevant safety regulations.
  • Domestic or International travel may occasionally be required.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 3+ years of experience / working knowledge of hardware design
  • Relevant experience and proficiency in hardware architecture creation, including:
    • Analog interfaces between external signals and MCU
    • Digital design of MCUs, MPUs, memory, and other peripherals
    • Interfacing to displays via parallel and LVDS
    • Experience in VHDL is a plus
  • Demonstrated understanding of electrical engineering principles, standards, practices, and methods.
  • Knowledge of standard EMC testing, including radiated and conducted immunity, radiated emissions, surge, and ESD.
  • Understanding of embedded firmware concepts (primarily C-based), with the ability to effectively collaborate with dedicated firmware engineers during hardware bring-up and debugging—coding skills are a plus but not required for this role.
  • Experience in the design and development of industrial control systems, power electronics, and I/O systems.
  • Experience writing formal engineering documents, schematics, and specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Excellent organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively across various organizational levels, including management and production teams.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high sense of urgency in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
